Equipment
Oxford Cryosystems Ltd are experts in cryogenic technologies for advanced scientific and analytical applications. We offer cryogenic cooling devices for a wide range of research and commercial applications. Open flow cooling using nitrogen, argon and helium is routinely used X-ray and neutron research into a range of materials, from pharmaceuticals to superconductors and energy storage. Cryogen-free systems powered by Gifford-McMahon cryocoolers produced in-house found their way to X-ray powder diffraction, interferometry, optical systems and radio astronomy. Product ranges: open flow cryogenic cooling - Cryostream, Cobra, N-Helix closed-cycle cryogenic cooling - Phenix, Phenix Front Loader closed-cycle cryostats Gifford McMahon cryocoolers - 0/12, 0/40, 2/9, 6/30, ruggedised 2/9 compressors - K450, ruggedised K450-AC3 for outdoor use in extreme environments
Scientific focus and expertise
OxCryo’s product portfolio spans open-flow nitrogen, argon and helium cooling, alongside cryogen-free platforms powered by Gifford–McMahon cryocoolers built in-house. These technologies underpin research across X-ray and neutron sciences, superconductivity, energy storage, interferometry, optical systems and radioastronomy. OxCryo plays a critical role in major international astronomy collaborations, delivering cryogenic cooling for C-BASS, MeerKAT and SKA-Mid within the Square Kilometre Array programme. Beyond astronomy, OxCryo deliver novel cryogenic solutions for synchrotrons, neutron and muon sources and supports plasma diagnostics and monitoring. Through sustained collaborations with researchers across the globe (University of Oxford, University of Leeds, University of Portsmouth, Diamond Light Source, UKAEA, ANSTO, ORNL), OxCryo engineering excellence enables breakthrough science and advance the technologies underpinning a low-carbon energy future.
